Summary of Dominica
Now that I have some internet, let me write about Dominica. I've just posted the photos. Well Dominica was nice. We drove around the island and visited the rainforest. The roads are incredibly narrow and windy, the drivers are skilled at the art of squeezing large trucks around narrow corners with vehicles moving in opposite directions. Our driver was very nice. He took us to the Carib territory, which wasn't as great as we had hoped. You really couldn't tell where Carib territory started and ended. The Caribs are the original natives to the islands settling there in something like 1600 B.C., and so the situation is much like the Native America situation. The Carib Territory is their equivalent to a reservation. We did see some nice crafts and met a nice lady though. On the way back to the ship we stopped at Mr. Nice's fruit stand, where he says "Its Nice to be Nice!". He has a small stand where he cuts up fruit and serves it Dominican style to anyone who stops, free of charge. He has a basket hanging where he accepts donations. The pineapple was delicious and very sweet, and the other things were good too (cocoa beans or bananas with candied coconut was very good). The island is a bit under-developed, but they want to maintain their natural areas and seem to be working hard to do so. There are no beaches to speak of, so the rainforest is the main attraction.
